Nanakmatta Gurudwara and Dam

Rudrapur in Uttarakhand is famous for Nanakmatta Sahib Gurudwara, sacred pilgrimage for the Sikh community and followers of Guru Nanak. Shri Guru Nanak Ji, the founder of Sikh religion visited this Gurudwara and hence scores of devotees visit this holy place to seek the blessings of their Guru, prayer, meditate. The Gurudwara is situated on Rudrapur-Tanakpur road in between Khatima and Sitarganj at a distance of 56 kilometers away. A beautiful lake has been constructed in front of the Gurudwara and it is a popular picnic spot with options of boating as well fishing in the lake situated on Nanakmatta Dam on the Saryu River. A tourist rest house is located on the premises of the Gurudwara for accommodation of disciples visiting it.

Atariya Temple

A trip to Rudrapur will be incomplete if a tourist doesn’t pay a visit to Atariya Devi Temple which is located 2 kilometers away from Rudrapur Bus Stand. According to folklore, the temple dedicated to Goddess Atariya was built by King Rudra whose chariot wheel got struck in the marshy land while crossing the area. This prompted him to construct a temple and a well on this location as he prayed to the goddess for rescuing him. A 10 day fair is organized on the temple premises every year during Navratri and the temple is visited by thousands of devotees.

Moteshwar Mahadev Temple

This famous temple located in Rudrapur is dedicated to Lord Bhimshankar (a reincarnation of Lord Shiva) and consists of other deities; i.e. Parvati, Ganesh, Bhairav, Kali and Hanuman. The temple is easily accessible at a distance of 3 kilometers from Kashipur town in Uttarakhand and Shivratri, Chaiti Mela as well as Shrawan Mela are celebrated with fanfare on the temple premises every year being visited by countless devotees.
